love and iphone…

Ok… so last week was a disaster as far as my weight goal is concerned but in other news – I did get an iphone.  To be totally honest, my husband got one and after messing around with it for a couple of days, I was in love.  I had had a blackberry for the past 3 years and although I loved my blackberry pearl, the curve was a piece.  I had renewed my contract with AT&T in September and that is when I got the curve.  After a month, it broke and I had to get a new one (thankfully I had the warranty) and THEN in December it broke again… same place and everything.  The charging port was all messed up and so I couldn’t charge my phone which was frustrating.  Anyways, I was on my third curve and it was working BUT when the iphone crossed my path, I knew I had to figure out a way to get it, and I did.  I called AT&T, rose a little hell and they credited my account, told me how to change over to the iphone and voila!  I have one.  All I have to do is recieve my rebate from my curve (which I still have not gotten…) and sell it to break even.  Awesome.

I wanted to talk about some iphone apps that I found that are helpful as far as weight management goes.  There is a free app called “Lose it!” and it is pretty awesome.  You can set a goal (so mine is 125lbs) and it tells you how many calories you can have to reach your goal and how long it will take you.  Then, you can track all of your foods and activities with the application and it will keep track of your progress.  Pretty awesome.  I am going to test it out this week to see how I can do.  It says I can have 1200 calories a day to reach my goal by June so that’s what I am planning on doing.  I figure that if I focus on veggies and fruit that 1200 calories will not be a huge deal.  Plus, if I work out, I can eat more… if I decide too.  So all in all – it’s a little bit like weight watchers bundled up into a free iphone app.  I’ll keep you updated on how it goes – this week will be loads better than last week, I swear on my eyes.

Week 8 = disaster

Last week was a major disaster.  Not only did I only work out 2 times, I ate like a slob all week too.  Don’t ask me why because I really do not have a good answer – I do, however, have some excuses up my sleeve.  Let’s see,  it was an insanely stressful week full of conduct meetings, long lunch meetings and college students ready for their spring break.   I tried to be really intentional about what I ate for lunch and dinner but nothing really worked out.  Instead, I had everything from a massive veggie burrito to a cheese & black olive stromboli with fries.  yuck.   Instead of totally giving up on my goal – I just have to work that much harder to make up for last week.  I think I gained about 2lbs which is really annoying and discouraging but it’s totally my fault.  To make matters worse, because I was not able to work out I am way behind on my Nike+ goals.  I have two going right now – a calorie burning goal over 4 weeks and a distance goal.  I was doing amazing and running 2 miles and burning all kinds of calories but not anymore.  This week is going to kick my butt.

This week will either be really awesome or really hard.  The dining center is closed because the students are out for spring break so I will be making my own lunchs (which would be good) or going out with my co-workers to grab lunch.  There are some healthy things I can get for lunch if we go out but they really enjoy the not-so-healthy restaurants like mexican restaurants.  yum.   I am also going to bust my ass to work out every day this week.  I recently wiped the dust off of my “Firm” steps, weights and DVDs so incase I can’t make it to the gym, I can take care of it at home.  This week, my goal is to lose the 2lbs that I gained as well as the 2lbs that I should have lost to keep me back on track.  I realize it’s ambitious but I can do it :)

Hikes, H2O and Headaches…

Since my last post I have stuck to my guns and have resisted every opportunity to down a nice, cold, refreshing diet coke.  The thought of it just makes my mouth water but seriously, I haven’t had any.  I swear on my eyes.  It is for this reason, I believe, that I have developed several major headaches.  It has been about 18 days since my last soda and of those 18 days, I have probably had about 15 big headaches.  This is probably just a sign that I was drinking entirely too many sodas each day so I am really waiting for my body to get used to the fact that the sweet sweet taste of diet coke will no longer be part of my every day routine.   Advil has become my best friend recently and I have been drinking a ton of water to stay hydrated so I think that the headaches will cease soon.  On another note, a couple weeks ago my husband and I decided to start checking out area parks and hiking trails and we have found some pretty awesome places.  We have gone to South Mountain, Crowders Mountain and Latta Plantation which each have some very beautiful hiking trails and offer a great deal of variety.  South Mountain has some amazing waterfall trails and we took the 1.5 mile trail with our dog that ran along a great creek.  The other weekend we visited Latta Plantation which had a couple paved and unpaved trails with lake views and just recently we visited Crowders Mountain State Park and we ended up climbing this huge (relative to the south east) mountain side which over looked the surrounding towns and even down to Charlotte.  That trail ended up being about 4 miles long (thanks Nike+) and I am still sore from it!  I have enjoyed the hikes a great deal – taking photos and giving the dog some exercise while spending some quality husband/wife time have been wonderful.

So far, I have not lost weight to the tune of 1lb/week but I am working on it.  January was hard because it was filled with freezing temperatures, my comps exam and the start of a new year at work.  I think it will be easier for me to get going in February now that it is warming up a little bit and now that I have a daily morning routine.  Just have to kick these headaches and I will be good to go :)

Happy early Valentines day!
