For Christmas, my parents gave me a new Ipod nano which was a huge suprise… it’s Carolina Blue and the perfect size (if you are looking for an ipod the 8g nano is the one). I had heard of the Nike+ products from my triathlete-younger brother and I wanted to use my ipod for my workouts so I figured I would jump on the bandwagon. I purchased the ipod sport kit and set out to find a pair of sneakers that are compatible with the program but that would not break the bank. I found the perfect pair at Dick’s Sporting Goods and I was ready to start walking…and then maybe someday…running.
I started using the Nike+ program at the gym and on my walks with the dog this week and it’s pretty awesome. You just select whether you want to do a basic workout/time/calorie or distance then you choose your music and you are off! Your distance, calories and pace is all recorded and you get updates on your progress from a very friendly Nike+ voice every now and then depending on your workout. One of the best features of this product is that after your workout, you plug your ipod into your computer and itunes automatically syncs your new workout information with the Nike+ website and updates your profile. Amazing! Check it out if you are interested – there are a lot of other features available with the program that I have not had a chance to check out but I will keep you posted on the progress.
It also lets you set goals which is really neat on the website and you can earn “trophies” and little extras on your Nike+ profile which is encouragement enough sometimes. We’ll see, I really like it and it’s pretty motivational so maybe it will be a fun way for me to get rid of the thunder thighs and muffin top. The only downside is that it does not track anything when I use the elliptical machine however Nike is working on this and has developed a program for gym cardio machines to hook up to the shoe sensor and count calories. I don’t think my local YMCA is going to have this software anytime soon but I will keep my fingers crossed
