We all have them

Looming in our closets and hanging next to our full length mirrors – the skinny pants. I have a couple. Jeans, khakis, dress pants, you name it and they’re just waiting for me to drop 20lbs and then just maybe they can make their debut. That’s the catch: 20lbs. I am not overweight by any means – but I am certainly about 20lbs more than what I was when I graduated college… a mere 2 years ago. There are plenty of things that I can blame this addition on however, lack of sleep, lack of diet and certainly lack of exercise are among the key contributors. There are also plenty of things I have tried to keep me motivated and to help me get my act together including no-carbs, no-fat, high-fiber, no-food, only-water… well, maybe not that far but you get the point – I have tried everything I have ever heard of and with no success. That is why I am about to test the Weight-Watcher waters. I have signed up for the e-tools program (online only, no meetings) and am going to see how this pans out.

What sparked this weight-loss fiasco? My fat pants. We all have those too, usually right next to the skinny pants and they work the same exact way. Waiting for you to gain about 20lbs until they fit just right. So after I graduated college, I started what would end up being the most stressful, insane job in the Student Affairs world. Also, I got married (which is WONDERFUL but I started eating everything he ate which didn’t bode well for me…) and I started graduate school. Well recently, in the midst of searching for a new place to work, and an insanely stressful graduate course not to mention a more insane job, I was forced to slap on the fat pants, at a whopping 3 sizes up from usual. That is why I am going to do this weight watchers thing, so cross your fingers.

I’ll update this every week around my “Weigh-In” day and report any loses, gains, and any shenanigans that I may encounter along my way. I have done LOADS of research about weight watchers and other diets and although the best part about weight watchers for most people is the weekly meetings, I can’t fit it into my schedule right now because I am about to start a new job at a new institution (YAY!) and also, it is a lot more expensive and we’re trying to save some money.

I’ll keep you posted on how everything turns out – Happy Memorial Day 2008!
